Acting is super important. At least that was the impression I got watching the Oscars.
Every presenter would introduce the nominee with some hyperbolic speech like “Your performance in this film was so exemplary that my soul actually left my body because I was so fixated on the screen and your fantastic transformation into character.”
Look, I really like movies and being entertained but can this over-selling and pedestal placing of what is actually being achieved here stop? They are acting in movies. No big deal and probably not even that hard. Yes some people are better than others but even that is subjective. I am pretty sure I have seen Jack Nicholson win an Oscar for playing Jack Nicholson and more than once at that.
Have you actually ever really left a movie utterly astonished by how good someone was? Many times you leave and say “wow, so and so was really good,” but I don’t think anybody has ever rocked my world to the point where I needed to take a walk before I felt comfortable about driving home.
The best thing about the show? Beyonce. Dear God. From now on if I want to use a simile or metaphor to describe something unbelievably awesome it will be, “Yo son, that shit was like Beyonce on Oscar night.”
