Some physicists are now saying that faster-than-light travel may be a realistic possibility. Awesome. Just being able to utter the phrase “take me to warp speed” is tantalizing. But is this awesome but unnecessary?
Why the hell would I need to go faster than light-speed? Scientists say it would be possible to take a jaunt to a star. That is nice. But what am I going to do on a star? Incinerate myself?
Also, the method behind all of this sounds a little iffy. “The idea is that you take a chunk of space-time and move it,” said one NASA-affiliated scientist. I don’t know about you but moving space-time doesn’t scream easy or safe to me. I am not exactly sure what the space-time continuum is but surely this would affect it.
Now if we were talking teleportation I would be all for it. I have and will always want to teleport. No movement of space-time there. Just the movement and rearrangement of molecules, that is all…
