Premature Jubilation

Stop. Just stop. Stop saying football season is here. You’re embarrassing yourselves. And if you are typing it, stop typing it. Or else you will force me to track down your IP address so that I can tell you in person that you are embarrassing yourself electronically.

The NFL season is still a month away. The preseason doesn’t count. The preseason is a disgrace and should be abolished. The only thing it is good for is injuring players, making people embarrass themselves by giving them the opportunity to say football is back and boring me immensely.

There is nothing worthwhile to take away from it. Teams don’t even game plan. In 2008, the Detroit Lions went undefeated in the preseason. You know how many games they won in the regular season? That would be zero. As in none.

So stop teasing me and saying the dreadful Summer sports drought is over (LeBron and company accomplished the impossible in actually making June and July interesting). Because I for one do not consider a battle of ineptitude between Jon Kitna and J.T. O’Sullivan NFL football.

Calling the preseason football is like thinking Isiah Thomas was a good GM and rehiring him. No one would do that, right?
